Mullen Downs Smoky Hill in Volleyball

The Mullen Mustang girls’ volleyball team took on Smoky Hill in their last regularly scheduled league game before getting underway in the Centennial League’s post-conference schedule tournament. 
The Mustangs took control early and did not relinquish that control until all was settled on the court.  In Game-1, the Buffaloes put up a fight but in the end could not keep pace with Mullen falling to the Mustangs 25-17.  In Game-2, it was all Mullen.  The Mustangs established an early lead and never looked back winning easily 25-13.  With a 2-0 lead, Mullen entered Game-3 looking for a sweep and an early exit back home, but Smoky Hill had different thoughts.  In a give and take game, the two teams took turns making plays, and no one team could pull away from the other.  It was not until both teams found themselves all tied at 22, that Mullen was able to win the next two points resulting in a 35-22 win and a 3-0 sweep of the Buffaloes.
With the completion of the conference regular-season play, The Mustangs ended up in 4th-place with a 4-3 record, and amassed an overall record of 11-5, putting their RPI on the year at 17 which also happens to match their current 4A State ranking.  Up next for the Mustangs is the Centennial League Challenge Tournament with their first of three games at home  on Thursday against Arapahoe.  They will close their regular season with a tournament at Discovery Canyon on October 27th, and then they are off to Regionals the following week.
